Winds of Wrath

The road goes ever onward.

Winds of Wrath Guild Charter

I. Purpose

The Winds of Wrath is a guild of gamers focused on two aspects of gameplay in World of Warcraft. These aspects are roleplaying and casual PVE boss mob raiding. Most of the founding members have backgrounds coming from Ultima Online and/or Everquest and are looking to combine the best aspects of both prior games in World of Warcraft. Winds of Wrath does not currently exist in any other game at the current time though this might change if the right game comes along.

With regards to roleplaying, please read our statement about Roleplaying, as Winds of Wrath Sees It. We certainly do not expect everyone in the game to conform to our idea of roleplay but we do expect those who wish to be members of our guild to make good effort to do so.

As for raiding, most of us are veteran raiders from Everquest and greatly enjoy the challenges of assembling a team of friends and attempting a difficult encounter against the "legendary" monsters of the game world where we play.

World of Warcraft supports both of the above purposes in excellent fashion.

II. Guild Structure

The current structure of Winds of Wrath is relatively simple. There will be a guildmaster (not elected), officers (again, not elected), and members. There are no probationary members in Winds of Wrath. We'll get to know you before we allow you to wear our guild tag. This structure is subject to change if need dictates but the philosophy of our founding members is to keep things as simple as possible.

Officers have full authority to invite, expel, promote, and demote members up to their own rank.

Currently the guild size is not fixed though generally we envision a guild size (as measured in players, not characters) of not much greater than the maximum raid size limit in World of Warcraft, which is 40 persons. This leads to an expectation of approximately 50 players, depending on how many players are active raiders. The number of characters is not limited at this time and you can have as many alts guilded as you choose. There is no restriction on having alts in other guilds at this time either though this may change if problems arise. (Addendum: At this time it is is likely that Winds of Wrath will remain a smaller guild in the neighborhood of 10-20 players since most raid objectives can currently be done with smaller raids and the larger raids are doable with alliances of small guilds. As always, this is subject to change as needs dictate.)

III. Recruitment

As stated above, there are no probationary members of Winds of Wrath. If our gaming focus is of interest to you, then you need to get to know us. Leaving a message on our forums is a good start and if the message is in-character, that's even better. Interacting with us in-game, both in roleplay situations and in other game situations (groups, PVP, raids, etc.) is another excellent way.

Be advised that every member of Winds of Wrath will be expected to post at least an introductory character story in our Bardic Hall forum. You are not required to do more after that but doing so certainly helps others to get to know both your character and eventually the player behind the character.

IV. Member Behavior

Members are expected to abide by all the rules expressed by Blizzard both in General for World of Warcraft and in particular the additional rules for the roleplay servers. Beyond that, we expect you to treat other members of the guild in a mature fashion and with respect when interacting in any out-of-character manner.

In-character interactions may vary, of course, but when setting up confrontational scenarios with another character (whether in Winds of Wrath or not), it is considered good form to discuss the scenario from an out-of-character perspective in order to ensure there is agreement about the general direction of the interaction. With spontaneous interactions this is not possible, of course, but do try to remember to respect the player behind the other character even if your character is in heated opposition to theirs. Often a simple out-of-character tell to the player in question clarifies things. While Sorronn may have had a huge in-character argument with Telumehtar, a simple private tell such as "Well played! Sorronn is going to be annoyed with Telumehtar for a while now! Smile" can affirm to the other player that things have remained in their proper context, which is between characters and not between players of those characters.

Regarding context, it is vitally important for people to be able to separate their in-character actions from their out-of-character interactions with other members and other players not even in Winds of Wrath. One of the most frequent sources of anger and frustration is someone mistaking the words, opinions, and actions of your character for the words, opinions, or actions of the player behind the character. When in doubt assume that someone is acting in-character and do not attribute things said to the player behind the character. But if certain issues persist and appear to be aimed beyond the character to the player, please speak with an officer or the guildmaster to see about getting the situation resolved.

V. Raids

Winds of Wrath does not plan on having a fixed raiding schedule, although one may grow out of our playing patterns over time. For instance, in Everquest we often raided together once a week on Tuesday nights but that raid was never mandatory or fixed in the schedule. It simply happened to be the best day for the majority and raiding once a week was the what the majority felt comfortable doing. Similarly, as we all reach the end game levels, our raid schedule will be allowed to grow out of the time and playing habits of our members.

As a member of Winds of Wrath, attending raids is always optional. Given that part of the focus of our guild is towards such raids, we would prefer that people applying for membership be interested in that aspect of the game than not. However, be aware that the rewards from raids (magical armor or swords, books, spells, formulas, plans, patterns, gems, etc.) are the rightful spoils of those who participated in the raid. If you don't participate in raids at all, then you should not expect the rewards from those raids. You might be gifted with such an item but you shouldn't expect it. Most, if not all of those rewards will be spread amongst the participants in a fair manner. There will be a separate document fully detailing Winds of Wrath's intentions with regards to raids from organization, to operation, and including treasure found. Please see that document for more details.
